LOST

SEASON 1
LOST
This is the appropriate title for this show since the viewers, and for the most part the writers, are totally LOST as to what the hell is going on. Here we have this show about a plane crash on some uncharted island and there were survivors. Simple plot you say, but there is more. The writers are choosing not answer any questions and for me it’s getting to be to frustrating and confusing. Now I am not an idiot, I love a good thrilling show but at some point you got to give your viewers something besides cliff hangers to keep them interested. For example when the show first aired there was this mysterious Monster that they chose not to show the viewers and at the end of season one, they promised to give us, the viewers some answers. Well the cliffhanger answered NOTHING; it only brought about more questions. Now we start season two with a new dynamic, the back half of plane had survivors.Back of the Plane They dedicated a couple of shows to them, but unlike how they did with the front half of the plane, they didn’t give us background on each of the main characters. They did this in the first season with the main characters from the front half of the plane by showing us flash backs of that person’s life and how they come to be on OCEANIC Flight 815. (more…)

Madea vs. Nanny

November 25, 2005

November 25, 2005 marks the day that both my maternal and paternal grandmothers were born. For the longest time, until I was about 25 or so my maternal grandmother, Madea, thought her birthday was November 26th. Then for whatever reason she needed a copy of her birth certificate and when she received it she found out she was a year younger and her date of birth was a day earlier. We all had a laugh. Apparently in Oak Grove Louisiana, where she was born in the 1930’s to a mid wife, the birth certificates for the month were taken to the town a signed in one day. So she was told verbally that her birthday was November 26th. (more…)

Harry Potter

November 20, 2005

Last night I did something I haven’t done in a while, I went to see a movie on its opening weekend. Yes, like millions of other kids and adults I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. I think the last movie I went to see period was “Must love Dogs” (which was way too long and drawn out. The plot was ok but they had entirely too much dialog). (more…)

Together we FUNK part 2!

November 14, 2005

Sometime last month I saw a documentary on George Clinton and the Parliament. It talked about how P-Funk has influenced music of today especially Hip-hop. I must say that until I saw this documentary I never really appreciated the genius of George Clinton. Yes that’s right I said genius. Here was man that for all intensive purposes looked like a complete and total fool with his on stage antics. But he created a following musically and performance wise that is still strong today.
The documentary showed some early footage of the parliament’s concerts. They likened the Parliament’s concerts to what they termed as a “FUNK OPERA.” They talked about the different characters that were apart of their shows and these character were from the mind of George Clinton. There were heroes, Star Child, protector of the Pleasure Principle, and antagonists, Sir Nose A Lot, who didn’t like funk music and didn’t dance. (more…)

My Money

November 13, 2005

Here’s the situation, you are the only one in your immediate family to attend college and graduate. You have a good paying corporate job with nice benefits. You are paying your bills on time, and you are trying to build up that safety net savings of 3 months worth of your monthly salary. Then bam, your sister calls, her lights are about to get cut off and she needs you to loan her the money. This is the third time in as little as 4 months that she called with one financial crisis or another. You know that if you say no then you get the barrage of calls from you other sibling or your mother imploring you to help your family out because that is what families do. Maybe you in this situation, you may not have gone to college but you do have a pretty good job that you have worked your way up to some decent pay. You are quietly paying your bills when like clock work your auntie calls and tells you she is about to loose her house for the 3rd time in 2 years. She is 3 months behind in her payments and she needs you to help her out. She needs $1500 dollars. She promises she will pay you back but you know deep down inside that if you give her this money you will never see it again. (more…)

Football

November 7, 2005

Ok this is me :( right now at this point in the football season. I am :( because my teams the Texans and the Greenbay Packers both have the worst record in the NFL (1 & 7). I am just shocked and amazed at how the phenomenon. I’ll start with Greenbay since I was their fan when the Houston Oilers up and moved to Tennessee. I watched Bret who I nicknamed the comeback kid throw for 3 touchdowns in the fourth quarter of game with 6 minutes or less on the clock to win it. Greenbay was known for this typed of win, their offensive would have Farve scrambling to keep from getting sacked but he throws that ball on the roll out of pocket to hit his man. (more…)

BET’s 25th Annivsary Special

The BET 25th Anniversary special was off the chain. Side note: Is Steve Harvey the only host BET knows? Hasn’t he hosted the last 3 or 4 shows? Is it because Monique just had babies (she just had twins)? I like Steve but come on can’t we get some other people to host? Just an observation, back to the topic at hand. The Special was done up right nicely. Boy did it take me back. Yeah, yeah I know I sound old but hey this special highlighted my era in music. Donnie Simpson and Video Soul was a staple for BET and black videos. This show helped launch many careers. I can’t remember how I started watching the show but I would imagine it came about when I was channel surfing, which I often did back then and still do now. I know that I saw music with folks that look liked me. I was happy and awed. Then I saw him, with those light green eyes and that beautiful smile, Donnie Simpson the black version of Dick Clark…does this man ever get old (Donnie Simpson that is). It was at that moment that I was hooked. I wasn’t too happy when Sherri(spelling?) Williams joined to show, she didn’t add much to it in my opinion. Donnie had that warm smile and laugh that made the viewer and artist feel so comfortable. I went through the many set changes; Donnie’s many wardrobe changes and his many co-hosts. When I saw him open the 25th Anniversary show and he was still looking like that same guy sitting on that leather couch introducing those videos 25 year ago, I just smiled. (more…)
