Thrill seekers, why?

January 28, 2006

Maybe it’s me but I don’t get some folks, especially white folks and some definitely confused black folks, need for thrills and adventure.

Lately I’ve been watching “I Shouldn’t be Alive” and Dirty Jobs on the discovery channel. Let’s take the show “I Shouldn’t be Alive”. Now in some of the stories the folks got caught in situations that were beyond their control and I felt for them, shit happens, but in some of the stories the folks were in just plain ole stupid and avoidable situations. Situations, that if they had followed a rule or two, or used better judgment, things would have been a whole lot different. Lives might not have been lost and they in turn wouldn’t be on the show telling their tale, but their need for adventure, their need to test their physicality and well as others makes them ignore all the risks. Houston we might have a solution

Gary Kubiak.

Yes, Gary Kubiak, soon to be the former Defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos and the new head Coach of the Houston Texans. It hasn’t officially been announced, well there hasn’t been a press conference yet, but all the news media outlets here in Houston are abuzz with the news. Let’s weigh the pros and cons of this hire.

Pros:

    * Gary Kubiak, started his football career here in our fair city having played high school football for St. Pius and then college football Texas A&M. So he has local ties.

    * Kubiak was picked in the eighth round of the 1983 draft by the Broncos, with whom he served as the backup to John Elway until 1991. During that time, he was a member of three Super Bowl teams and appeared in 11 of the 14 playoff games played by the Broncos during his tenure

    * In 1982 he returned to A&M as a running backs coach during his two seasons, the Aggies posted a record of 22-3 and played in back-to-back Cotton Bowls.

    * Of those nine seasons (1983-91) as a quarterback for the Broncos, he was a member of three Super Bowl teams and appeared in 11 of the 14 playoff games played by the Broncos during his tenure.

    * In 1994, he became quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers, with whom he won his first Super Bowl. (more…)

Life’s Little Necessities

January 21, 2006

Ok so my microwave went caput about three weeks ago. I have been meaning to replace it but haven’t found the time. This past week I really didn’t need the thing since my sinuses and allergies were making me hella sick I was only eating Chicken Noodle soup, which I always fix in a pot on the stove; there is no reason why I do this but I do, habit I guess, or not eating at all. Well this week, more like Thursday, after a taking some meds that were prescribed by my physician, I felt better and hungry. I check out the fridge and all I had was lean cuisine dinners. “Oh Snap” (like the board breaking on yahoo messenger) my microwave is broken. I just boiled me two eggs and went to bed. Well last I bought some shrimp with vegetable from the Chinese restaurant and couldn’t finish it so I put the leftovers in fridge to be enjoyed later. Tonight I went to get my leftover and like the board “Oh Snap!!!” the dang microwave is still broken and I haven’t replaced it. I put the foil container in the oven and that took forever (30 or 40 minutes). I really need to get a new microwave soon. Wally world (my friend’s nickname for Wal-Mart) here I come.

Htown Sports Where Ya at?

January 17, 2006

Ok so if you’ve read this blog in the past then you know that I am a sports fan, but lately being a sports fan in Houston has been hard. I mean with my Texans regressing to the point where they are worse than they were when they came into to the league to my college alamamater having the same record as the Texans, it’s enough to make you turn tail and run. Well I am a fan, no a bandwagoner, I may not attend as many games as I did (I can’t stand to watch the bleeding) when they had their mediocre seasons, but I still root for them even in the bad times. With all that being said, what the hell is going on with the Houston Rockets? Before the season started they were looking good and favored to make a run for the playoffs now its looking like they may be making a run for a first round draft pick (for those of you who don’t know the first round draft pick goes to worse team in the league). I do not understand all these fragile players with the exception of McGrady. Hell I think his back is hurting from carrying the whole damn team, which is what he did in Orlando. Come on Van Gundy and Carroll Dawson get the guy some help.

Maybe if Van Gundy had some words of encouragement instead of critism for his team they may play better

American Idol

It’s here. One of the most anticipated reality shows out there. Let’s see what talentless, clueless, tone deaf folks they let make an ass of themselves on national tv, this year.

Changes…NOT!!!

January 5, 2006

The more things change the more they stay the same. Recently my baby sister’s boyfriend, at my request, fixed me up with a co-worker of his. I asked all the pertinent questions: Is he single? Does he have any kid, if so how many? Does he live near me? Yada, yada. So dude calls me up we make arrangements for the next day to meet in person. He was supposed to call to setup the time. Well the call never came that day. Yes, I know I could have called but I didn’t want to start things out like that, I feel if you say you are going to do something then do it. So following day after we were supposed to meet dude calls and asks what happened. He said he was going to call me and setup a time, since he didn’t call I made other plans. Well make arrangements to meet the following Saturday. Again dude doesn’t call. So I just write him off.
Well about a week or two ago I’m at karaoke cheering and drinking with friends, when I get this phone call. I didn’t recognize the number so I answered it. It from some chick that says she is dude’s wife. Yes the dude my sister’s boyfriend set me up with. I’m floored. She proceeds to tell me how she was going through his phone and wanted to know who this number belonged to (women still do that?). I’m like look I don’t know your husband as a matter of fact I have never even met your husband. (Dumb ass broad) She’s like “Oh.” I hang up. Shaking my head. Ladies if you got go through your man’s phone to find out if he’s cheating then you got problems and need some help. Nine times out of ten if you suspect he’s cheating then he probably is. In the words of Tupac only slightly modified “if it’s your man who’s sweating me then its your man you check” why call the woman she may not even know you exist, and she because you make yourself known to her doesn’t change the fact that your man is a cheater.

My Mojo

January 4, 2006

Ok folks, something is wrong. Something is off. Something is broken and I am not sure how to fix it. Yes, like Austin Powers in the Spy who shagged me, my MOJO is gone.
Not that I was some female version of a Casanova, no, for some reason the last guys I have attracted have been losers. Lately the types of guys I have attracted are guys that either, have no stable job, have 3 kids, live with someone or are married. I am like what the fuck!?! What type of vibes am I sending out? If it is my vibes then how do I change them quick?
I mean my Karma is way off!!! I do not understand this trend, I am a stable chick. I have a good job, no I have a career. I have no kids, I have never been married. I aint one of those chicks that’s all about the drama, life is too short for all of that. I am not some crazy stalker, nor am I clingy. I believe everyone needs their space. So with all these positives why am I being barbed with the negatives?

Update

Well folks my friend I spoke about in my earlier post (Friendship Redux) called me last night. She wished me a happy new year as did I to her. We shared a personal joke and she laughed and seemed very happy to talk to me. Then she reached her destination and told me she would call me back. So we still haven’t had the heart to heart but I feel it’s coming soon.
