CRASH

Crash
I recently bought and watched CRASH on DVD and I can see why Will was so impressed with the movie. It was an excellent movie that should spark a lot of discussion. As a matter of fact, my friend /co-worker and I had a discussion about the movie ourselves. He thought that the white folks in the movie came out looking better than the black folks. He felt that the feelings expressed by Sandra Bullock’s character were the feelings felt by most folks watching the movie. He even thought that Matt Dillon’s character, the racist cop, came out looking better. He felt that although, Matt’s character had prejudiced feelings for blacks or minorities, he still saved Thandie Newton from the fiery wreck which in essence showed that he had a good heart. I must say I didn’t even think about it that way until after I talked to him. I don’t really agree with him on all his points because to me the only person that came out looking good was the Hispanic guy. He didn’t show any prejudiced feeling nor did he do anything negative all he did was his job and that got him insulted and him and his daughter damn near killed.
Fiery Wreck I thought that Matt’s character in the whole fiery wreck scene was just doing his job and didn’t give a thought to race but to the fact of some life was in danger, so maybe that is the same thing that my co-worker was saying. He said the movie made a minor attempt with Luda’s Character to make the black people look good in the end when he let the Cambodian folks go but he felt they fell short. He said they fell short because Luda released those folks in Chinatown and they weren’t even Chinese so who knows what happened to them. He also asked me about the whole Terrance Howard/Thandie Newton situation and if I thought Terrance should have done something when Matt was folding her. He asked me what I would have done. I told him that I probably wouldn’t have been in that situation because I wouldn’t have been mouthing off and granted Thandie’s character by no means deserved to get “fingered”, I can’t help but feel that had she kept her mouth shut and stayed in the truck then she possibly would not have been in that situation. But had it been me I don’t think I would have blamed my husband if he didn’t say anything to a racist cop with a gun. I would have just reported the cop and took it from there.
Tell me your thoughts on the movie and the opinions expressed here. If you haven’t seen the movie then you should. Yes it was one of the few OSCARS that was given out that I thought was well deserved.

  1. Interesting way of looking at it but anything can happen in any situation no matter what you do.
