My Thoughts

The Texans apparently have passed on both Reggie and Vince. They have taken Mario Williams. No one had Mario in their top 5 picks. This is a PR nightmare. I’m at a lost for words.

1). For some reason I can’t seem to get to work on Monday before 9am. I think it’s a subconscious thing with me. Today I didn’t make it into work until 10:30am. Yeah I know that’s bad. We have flextime here at work, which is my only saving grace.

2). Today while driving in I saw yet another truck with a plastic, let me find a delicate way to put this, “balls sac” hanging from the back of it. I am trying to figure out what statement the drivers are trying make by having this there.

3). I can’t seem to get motivated lately to do any work. You would think that the fact that I have some deadlines that I shouldn’t miss would be enough.

4). Gas prices are killing me and I live in a major port city so why are they so high here since they don’t have to go far to transport it.

5). The car dealership service department is a rip off. I am going to have to break down and pay $79 to get my car’s A/C diagnosed. I just recently paid $8.71 cents for 1 replacement key(long story, maybe a blog topic). It’s wasn’t one of th ose coded keys either .

6). Have you ever been so far behind at work that you don’t no where to start? Or maybe you have bills and not enough money to pay them all so you don’t which ones to pay with the little money you do have.

7). If one more person calls the local sports radio station to express why the Texans should take Vince Young with their #1 pick and not Reggie Bush, I am going to scream. People it aint going to happen. Vince Young will not be a Texan move on! You’d swear Reggie Bush was some scrub or something they way these folks are acting.

With 5 days left until the NFL draft and with all the rumors and speculations it’s looking like the Texans, with their number one draft pick, will draft Reggie Bush. Although, some folks are still holding out hope that they, by some reason of insanity will draft Vince Young. I say insanity because financially that wouldn’t make much sense they picked up the 8 million dollar option on David Carr’s contract back in Feb. Even though Vince Young is a hometown guy I don’t foresee him coming here. So let it go Houston www.vinceyoungorelse.com , and lets get ready for some football.

Recently my beloved alma mater, Texas Southern University, was dealt a black eye; no it was dealt two black eyes and club over the head. On Monday, April 17th, 2006, the president of Texas Southern University, Dr. Priscilla Slade, was relieved her duties because of inappropriate spending of the universities funds. We are not talking about a few hundred dollars here or there, we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of her seven years; her whole time as president of TSU.
Now when the allegation first surfaced, I was hoping that some sort of mistake had been. Maybe there was some record keeping mistake, an accounting snafu so to speak. But as the days wore on and more and more information was revealed it began to look like there was no mistake but Dr. Slade’s lavish lifestyle and expensive taste got the better of her. At the time when Dr. Slade was appointed as president of the Texas Southern, it was on the verge of financial ruins with terrible book keeping records and a paper trail that no one could make heads or tails of. March 31st marked the start of the Major League Baseball season. April 3rd marked the start of the Houston Astros regular season and they marked this with a Win against the Florida Marlins. Despite all the drama between Jeff Bagwell and the team’s owner Drayton McLane, game 1 marked the debut of the Astros lone African-American player, Preston Wilson. and it wasn’t until game 3 that he showed Houston what he came to do.

He hit his first home run in the Astros third Game against the Florida Marlins helping the team win the game and take the series 2 -1. So far from what I’ve seen of his play the dude got some skills, he has a total of 4 homeruns and some pretty outstanding defensive plays in the outfield. Maybe the Astros will take his positives and add some more Black players to the team because having on 1 is just plain pathetic.

Soapbox: And no, just because the Hispanic players look black doesn’t make them black. They are of Hispanic descent (yes I heard this argument on the radio sports shows here. Folks were referring the Beltran and Tavares as Black Hispanics. When if fact these fellas are from countries in south America.). So far so good Mr. Preston Wilson I will be watching to see how the team progresses with your bat being added to line up since we didn’t manage to bring back the Rocket Roger Clemmons, it’s going to be interesting to see how this baseball season will progress.

A). Yesterday I saw a woman and a young boy, he looked to be about 13 -15 years old, putting fresh flowers on the one of those MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Crosses at accident sites. I often wondered who and how those flowers got on those crosses.
B). I saw a sign the other day on this Catholic Church near my house. It said: ” You can’t believe in abortion and be a Christian.” My thoughts were: I guess you can be a pedophile and be a Christian.
C). I watched another episode of The Black/White Experiment on FX Channel and I must say if I hear one more white person say “bling, bling” I’m going to scream. On the episode I saw the black lady went into this store dressed as a white lady and was talking some old white lady who said she was buying these shoes because they have “bling, bling” on them The black lady asked her what that meant. The white woman responded that it meant that there were shiny jewels on them. I was surprised she had it almost right but please stop using it, and while you are at it stop with the “You go Girl” as well. There were other things on this show I saw but that’s a whole nother blog topic.
D). I am really not seeing much of a difference between Republicans and Democrats these days. Their political lines are getting very blurry. Especially when it comes to this illegal immigration issue. I have one question if it is decided that all the illegal immigrants here will be charged with a misdemeanor crime then who in the hell is going to enforce this. They can’t get enough folks to enforce the current immigration laws so how are they going to enforce new ones. Just a thought.
E). The Sopranos are definitely in their last season, there is no real punch to the show. Maybe it will get better now that Tony is out of the comma.
F). Why is that BET didn’t get better programming until it was taken over by Whitey (Viacom). Even College Hill got better. Well at lease the camera equipment did. (The cameras that they used for the first show looked like it needed to be cleaned. Who ever did the editing on the first show did a piss poor job of it because the shows did flow at all.) Yes the music videos are still a T&A fest but there are more shows to watch and the black shows that are in syndication or no longer on the air are being shown on the BET now. So, it took whitey to come up with this concept. Damn shame.

Well folks the count down is on, only 5 days left to file your taxes. April 15th is fast approaching and I like so many millions of American Citizens have yet to file my taxes. For me this is nothing new, I usually don’t file until late in the year since I almost always get a refund and the April 15th deadline is for those American citizens who have to pay the IRS taxes. Well since I dissolved a mutual fund last year I am a bit worried that I may be among those American Citizens who will have to pay, so like the rest you I will be making a mad dash to post office or electronic filing system this week.
