We Will Survive

TSU Recently my beloved alma mater, Texas Southern University, was dealt a black eye; no it was dealt two black eyes and club over the head. On Monday, April 17th, 2006, the president of Texas Southern University, Dr. Priscilla Slade, was relieved her duties because of inappropriate spending of the universities funds. We are not talking about a few hundred dollars here or there, we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of her seven years; her whole time as president of TSU.
Now when the allegation first surfaced, I was hoping that some sort of mistake had been. Maybe there was some record keeping mistake, an accounting snafu so to speak. But as the days wore on and more and more information was revealed it began to look like there was no mistake but Dr. Slade’s lavish lifestyle and expensive taste got the better of her. At the time when Dr. Slade was appointed as president of the Texas Southern, it was on the verge of financial ruins with terrible book keeping records and a paper trail that no one could make heads or tails of.
