Now Taking Applications

May 31, 2006

Is this the message I have to plaster on my forehead or walk around with on a shirt, in order to meet eligible bachelors? I wrote about the disappearance of my mojo hoping that maybe if I put that out there in the universe it would get it out of me and the cosmos will reverse it or flip the script. So far that hasn’t happened. So I say to you mother earth, Venus and Aphrodite, I am now talking applications for an eligible bachelor. He should have a sense of humor, a kind heart, be goal oriented, be honest, hard working and be a Christian. He should be able to appreciate a woman who has a good job, lives in her own house, has a sense of humor, a kind heart, honest, hard working and loves God.

FINALLY

This was the headline at noon… Done deal: Rocket returns to Astros in bold letters. So he has returnedRoger Clemmons. Now that that is over can we add some bats to the line up because the ones that are there are not getting it done. The Astros have a couple of guys in their farm system that most of the local sports guys think would add value to the line up, but hey they had a 6 and 19 start to the season last year and look at how they ended up.

to read the the terms of the deal here is the link The Rocket Signs with the Astros

I Am A What?!

I think I’m a CONSEVATIVE maybe even a Republican. Why do I say this? Well as this “illegal immigration” thing gets bigger and more and more radio talk radio shows discuss it, I find myself agreeing with many of the points. I believe that you should come into this country legally. I don’t believe we need new laws but the enforcement of the current immigration laws. I don’t see the point in all this protesting going on when most of the folks protesting are protesting the wrong issue. There is not some attack on all immigrants but only the illegal ones. It bothers me that illegal immigrants can get welfare and other public assistance benefits easily. It bothers me or better yet it doesn’t make sense to me that we, at least here in Houston, cater to Spanish speaking only people by putting everything in Both English and Spanish. That is not helping them; Spanish-speaking people assimilate into the culture. I think they and any other immigrant need to learn the language of the land because not being able to speak the language keeps them at a disadvantage in many aspects of life. I think they should pay taxes just like the rest of us. I know that if this happens that “Jose” won’t be able to do my landscaping for $30, but maybe little Andre or Sean, who is 11 or 12 years old, can now earn some money but cutting yards in the neighborhood. I believe that big businesses that hire illegal immigrants should be penalized. I also wonder why are the folks not protesting in Mexico and other South American countries where the corrupt government exist? Why not protest there so that they can stay in their home countries and earn a descent living? These are the things that I feel about.

With all that I’ve said there are still some issues that I don’t agree with and now that I think about it maybe I am not fully a Republican. I believe in pro-choice. I personally don’t believe that should be legislated. I am against making a constitutional amendment to band Gay Marriages. Why not leave that in the hands of the STATES. I am also ok with Welfare but I think it should be reformed and to that it can be used for what it is intended for “a helping hand to get someone back on his or her feet.” I am not a proponent of this “War on Terror” I think the troops need to come home. I don’t see why drugs and prostitution are illegal. I’m not sure how I feel about taxing the rich more than the poor, right now for me it’s not an issue maybe if I get rich I will have more thoughts on this issue. So I guess you can call me a DEMOPUBLICAN.

See Ya!!!

Yesterday the now “former” GM of the Texan announced his impending resignation. One report said that the Texans owner, Bob McNair, stressed that it was not because of the draft and that he thought the draft went well. Is say humph to that. By season’s end I may be eating these words that I typed but right now, it’s a humph. I also say that this resignation comes one or two drafts too late. The leading sports talk shows say that the Texans have botched second and third round draft picks since their inception. Now I don’t know how much of that is the coach and how much is the GM fault, but on paper it’s the GM. So I say to Charlie Casserly “Nah nah nah nah. Nah nah nah nah. Hey, hey, hey, goodbye”.

  • This is it so far, I know Saniyya is going to give me a hard time about this list. ;) What is your life’s soundtrack?

    Just Like Old Times

    May 5, 2006

This past weekend I went to the New Jack City Tour. This concert included After 7, Tony, Toni, Tone, Blackstreet featuring Teddy Riley, and Guy and let me tell you that show to took me all the way back to high school.
    The Venue:
The Tickets I bought were on the lower level facing the stage on the back of the theater. When we first got there we were a bit disappointed that there was no Big screen for us the see the acts close up. So yes I could not make out any one’s face. Which garnered some complaints from two of the chicks I was with because of my seat selection but since neither of them had enough money to pay to sit close they really had no recourse.
    The Concert:
The first act to hit the stage was the After 7. They started off their set with Can’t Stop. They performed about 4 or 5 songs and I tell you they sounded almost like the record. So I was hyped. Then they announced a brief intermission while the next act Tony, Toni, Tone got setup.
Tony, Toni, Tone came on the stage with much fanfare. They had a sheet covering the stage with lights flashing and smoke, the whole nine. They performed a couple of up-tempo songs then they did a little jam session to give the lead singer a rest. To our surprise the lead singer told us he wasn’t Raphael Saadiq but his younger cousin. He told the crowd that Raphael was off doing a solo project and couldn’t make it; from where I was sitting I wouldn’t have known the difference. The dude sounded identical to Raphael on some songs even better. Well they performed several of the classics including Anniversary; it never Rains in Southern California, Hey Little Walter and others. By the end of their set I was totally into it.
Next to take the stage was Blackstreet, I have was not a real big fan of theirs. At least not enough to buy any of their music. But they came on the stage and tore it up. I don’t know if those where the original members (minus Mr. Ghetto Crooner himself David Hollister) but they really sung those songs. A couple of songs they sung that I didn’t even know were theirs. But added the sex appeal to the show with one of the guys taking his shirt off for the ladies and yes he does work out.
The last act to come on was GUY. Yes all the original members where there. Crazy Legs, Aaron Hall and Teddy. The show was great. GUY even sung their very first songs…Groove Me, I Like and Piece of My Love. All in all it was a great concert.

    It Aint Ready Yet?!

    May 3, 2006

This is what I find myself asking whenever I go to the pharmacy. Let me give you all some background. My mother, god bless her, has had 3 strokes and is a dialysis patient. To see her you wouldn’t know this. The woman is doing well in spite of her health issues. Well since the strokes she is on a number of medication, approximately 10 different pills. Since the strokes she had to retire from Nursing at the age of 53(she was an RN) and since she is a dialysis patient (don’t know if this was brought on by the strokes or if it was going to happen because of her long time bout with diabetes) she is on Medicare. But because of her income, she was just above the poverty line, she didn’t qualify for Medicare prescription drug coverage only the medical coverage, so she had to pay out of pocket, full price, for her prescriptions. So we went with the common place, Walgreen’s, simply because there is one near her home and they have some that stay open 24 hours. Now I get into the topic of this post. I don’t know if it was because this particular Walgreen’s was in the “hood”, it’s a predominately black neighborhood, but her scripts were never ready and if they didn’t have the medicine in stock she may or may not have gotten a call to inform her. Needless to say, it was very frustrating going to this particular Walgreen’s. There was always a line and the techs had terrible attitudes. (more…)
