I Am A What?!

May 15, 2006

I think I’m a CONSEVATIVE maybe even a Republican. Why do I say this? Well as this “illegal immigration” thing gets bigger and more and more radio talk radio shows discuss it, I find myself agreeing with many of the points. I believe that you should come into this country legally. I don’t believe we need new laws but the enforcement of the current immigration laws. I don’t see the point in all this protesting going on when most of the folks protesting are protesting the wrong issue. There is not some attack on all immigrants but only the illegal ones. It bothers me that illegal immigrants can get welfare and other public assistance benefits easily. It bothers me or better yet it doesn’t make sense to me that we, at least here in Houston, cater to Spanish speaking only people by putting everything in Both English and Spanish. That is not helping them; Spanish-speaking people assimilate into the culture. I think they and any other immigrant need to learn the language of the land because not being able to speak the language keeps them at a disadvantage in many aspects of life. I think they should pay taxes just like the rest of us. I know that if this happens that “Jose” won’t be able to do my landscaping for $30, but maybe little Andre or Sean, who is 11 or 12 years old, can now earn some money but cutting yards in the neighborhood. I believe that big businesses that hire illegal immigrants should be penalized. I also wonder why are the folks not protesting in Mexico and other South American countries where the corrupt government exist? Why not protest there so that they can stay in their home countries and earn a descent living? These are the things that I feel about.

With all that I’ve said there are still some issues that I don’t agree with and now that I think about it maybe I am not fully a Republican. I believe in pro-choice. I personally don’t believe that should be legislated. I am against making a constitutional amendment to band Gay Marriages. Why not leave that in the hands of the STATES. I am also ok with Welfare but I think it should be reformed and to that it can be used for what it is intended for “a helping hand to get someone back on his or her feet.” I am not a proponent of this “War on Terror” I think the troops need to come home. I don’t see why drugs and prostitution are illegal. I’m not sure how I feel about taxing the rich more than the poor, right now for me it’s not an issue maybe if I get rich I will have more thoughts on this issue. So I guess you can call me a DEMOPUBLICAN.

  1. two political parties cant possibly emcomass the entire range of political sentiment out there. I myself agree with points made by all the parties here but none of them really totally encapsulates my political views.

That aside I somewhat agree with your post. I’m an immigrant to Canada myself and we have some illegal immigrant issues here too. Actually saw a protest yesterday on the issue and i’ll blog about that this week. MY thoughts though were my it must be nice to live in a country where you are here illegally, which is acrime and you can protest without the cops dragging your ass away and two how can i support you guys who are trying to circumvent the system when I had to go through all the red tape and bureacracy to myself come to this country legally. i feel some of your pain but your protests are a diss to me. anyway will post on this later this week if i remember.

I am not sure what you mean by “my protests are a diss to you”. Can you elaborate?
