Let It Go, Please

October 28, 2006

“You go Girl!”, “Bling, bling”, “Da Hood”,” My Boo”, “Fierce”, I would be happy if I never hear these words or phrases again.

I don’t know who told my Caucasian brothers and sisters that these phrases make them cool, but let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, they are old and tired. The only time we should be hearing “You go Girl!” is on the re-runs of Martin and that show ended in 1997.

Now this “Bling, Bling”, this was a song that release in 1999 and like the song this phrase shouldn’t be heard anymore unless it’s on someone’s IPOD old school mix.

White people, “da hood” does not necessarily mean the “ghetto”, it was, and not the term was, also used to refer to a neighborhood, which most of us live in. So please don’t say “da hood”, when you are referring to, especially a black person’s, place of residence because contrary to popular belief not all black neighborhoods are ghettos.

Now my black people can we please stop referring to our significant other as “My Boo”, this phrase was old long before Usher and Alicia Keys made their song.

This last term goes out one person in particular, Tyra Banks everything is not “Fierce”, so please stop saying it.

1 Year Anniversary

October 24, 2006

Well one year ago today I started on this journey called blogging and I must say that I have enjoyed the ride, mostly. Some times I hit a wall when trying to think of new and fresh topics. Sometimes I would feel intimidated by some of my blog friends writing prowess and ability. This has lead me to seek out a class that can help me with basic writing fundamentals that I forgot in my 9 plus years out of college. But I am glad to have taken this journey and hopefully my few faithful readers will continue to check here and see what’s going on with me. Who knows I may actual open up this book that is Jelli and give you some insight into me.

Time After Time

COMMODITY
NOUN:

pl. com·mod·i·ties
1. Something useful that can be turned to commercial or other advantage: “Left-handed, power-hitting third basemen are a rare commodity in the big leagues” (Steve Guiremand).
2. An article of trade or commerce, especially an agricultural or mining product that can be processed and resold.
3. Advantage; benefit.

So ask anyone what’s a precious commodity to them and you may get answers ranging from diamonds to oil, especially with recent gas prices, to food items. If you ask me it’s Time.

By definition time is not a commodity in the tradition sense but lets look at this more closely. Time can have value; everyday that you or I go to work time is valued by our hourly pay. Time is measurable by the hour, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds, for me and I am sure others there are not enough of these measurements in a single day.
Yeah I know it’s not like a days get shorter but gosh is sure seems that way at times. I know in my like because of circumstances that are beyond my control I only have a few hours of “ME TIME” and I try to optimize those few “ME TIME” hours (more like minutes). Sometimes I am successful other times I am not.

So I know haven’t been updating this blog much and I apologize for this. Hopefully some things will change soon and I will have more time to read blogs and update mine. So check back periodically.
