Be Informed

November 2, 2006

November 7th is Election Day here in the great state of Texas and I must say this year marks one of the first years that I did some research on my candidate choices. Yes, this year I will go to the polls as an informed voter. Now don’t get me wrong, in past elections, I was not one to blindly vote I would watch the debates and listen to candidates as they were interviewed on different shows, but this year my 19 year old sister, who is voting for the first time, and I actually read up on their views.

Some of the offices we will be voting on are, US Representative, State Representative, Prescient Judge, and the big one, Governor. Now the governor’s race is a funny one for me since no candidate stands out to me and I am not impressed with the incumbent. I think there needs to be a change but is this the time for that change since I am not really feeling his opponents. We have some characters running for governor this year. We have one of the two independent candidates, Carroll Keaton Strylander, “One Tough Grandma” yes she wanted to put that on the ballot. The other independent, Kinky Freedman, a former comedian, local singer who wants to legalize marijuana and gambling here in Texas and last but not least we have the quiet democrat Chris Bell who, until about two weeks ago, I didn’t know was running. Chris Bell didn’t have a lot of money was almost about to drop out of the race when one of the local lawyers here bankrolled his campaign. The way I see it our Republican incumbent will probably win since the other party votes will be split but at least when I cast my vote this and in the future will be informed on who and what I am voting for.
