Finally

Ladies and Gentlemen presenting the new owner of a 2002 Toyota Camry LE, Miss. Jelli.
*Applause* *A bow*

Yes I am now the proud owner of a 2002. I made my final payment Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 3pm central standard time.
I must say it’s a scary and lovely feeling. I am reminded of the bank of America commercial where the lady is riding with who I believe is her husband and announces that she needs to make the final payment of the car by phone but she knows that soon as she make the payment something is going to go wrong with the car. Her husband assures that nothing is going to go wrong. So she makes the payment and they give each other a satisfying look, then 2 seconds later the rear-view mirror falls off. I howled when I saw that commercial. And true to form the day after I made my payment I hear a knocking off some sort coming from the my car.

And now there some sort of plastic cover that has come a loose and hit the tire when I drive. Gotta love it!!!

What’s the Alternative?

July 16, 2007

Lately there has been a call for a moratorium on taser use here in Houston by local activist and “black leaders” of the community. There reason is there has been an excessive use of the taser on minorities and they want the police department to revamp their policy on the use. While, if you look at the statistics, you will see that there is a disproportionate use of tasers on minorities as opposed to their white counter parts. Also there have been a few deaths resulting from pre-existing ailments that were further aggravated by the taser. But I wonder, what will the alternative be for subduing an irate, uncooperative criminal?

My thoughts are if you don’t :
a). fight with the police
b). Resist arrest
c). Talk crazy or
d). make any sudden moves then there is less likely a chance that you will be tasered.

This is just a thought.

Maybe there is some meat behind the excessive taser use argument but, I think, a taser is better than what the alternative will be and that is a gun.

Fantasy Football

July 15, 2007

It’s almost time for the 2007 – 2008 NFL to start and that means it time for Fantasy Football. Yes, I play fantasy football and have played since 2002. My record has been ok to dismal depending the year. In my fantasy sports trophy case I have one trophy for a 3rd place win, thanks to Dominic Davis being the Texans main running back and sleeper pick in the fantasy world and well as the real world. Last year was by far my worst year thanks to injuries and a bad trade.

This year I am declaring it to be a good year. I am in a new league and there have been some changes to the scoring system we will be using. So like Hank Williams Jr. would say “Are you Ready for Some Football!!!” and I am answering with a resounding yes.

F.Y.I.
My Record:
2006 9 of 10
2005 5 of 10
2004 4 of 8
2004 5 of 12 (I was in two leagues this year)
2003 3 of 8
2002 7 of 8

House of Payne-ful to Watch

July 3, 2007

Ok so I am a Tyler Perry fan but his new show House of Payne is not very good so far. I am not sure where to start with what I think is wrong with this show, maybe I’ll start with the actors. While I know that Mr. Perry wants to give some of the folks who helped him get to where is today a shot, I don’t think the lead characters of Mom and Pop Payne LaVan Davis and Cassie Davis are not coming across on the small screen very well. They seem to talk to loud and their acting to seems to me to be a bit exasperated. I think they are having a time adjusting from acting on the stage to the acting on TV. Next we have the Mr. and Mrs. Payne’s son who I think adds no value to the show and needs some work on his acting as well. Now we have the kids, the little girl just doesn’t appear to be acting to me but more like she’s trying to remember her lines or like she’s reading but on a positive note the little boy seems to be a natural on the camera and with a few acting classes I think he will do well. Lastly, we have our veteran actor Mr. Allen Payne I don’t if it’s the bad acting that surrounds him but he is not coming across all that good in this show and believe me I have been an Allen Payne fan(G-Money) since his days as Lance on the Cosby show.

Ok so that’s the acting now the writing, the story development is lacking I can’t see how a married mother of 2 young children being on crack can be made funny. I don’t see the comedy in this situation at all but aside from that the story line of the few (3 shows) that I have seen just don’t flow, I mean when CJ (Allen Payne (I)) finally decides to go look for his wife after having worked all day at the firehouse, he finds her in a crack house. He doesn’t seem to upset but he tries to muster up some sadness and concern in his voice when he asks her to come home. She instead chooses the crack dealer. He seems sad but in the next episode he doesn’t seem to be bothered by the fact that his wife is a drug addict who has chosen to abandon him and their children. I don’t get it and the add further insult to injury, the son is making jokes and light of the fact that his mom is drug addict by making jokes with his cousin. I don’t get it.

Hopefully this show will get a much needed overhaul like “A Different World” did. But I don’t see it being much of hit, let alone, a crossover hit, if it continues on the same path that it is on.

This is just the humble opinion of one viewer.
