Fantasy

September 8, 2008

Thursday, 09/04/08 marked the opening season of my fantasy football league and this will make my 8th year playing. I still have yet to come in first place I have on a number of occasions come in second. I hope that this year Jelli’s Hammers will prevail.

Mr. Vick…

August 23, 2007

you’re an IDIOT. Why would you stoop to doing something so low as too fight dogs. Of all the ways to get some money why not play poker or fulfill your gambling urge in Vegas like some of your other fellow athletes.
That being said, media can we stop all this mass coverage of his crime. You would think the man was mass murderer of something. They are dogs. Yes it’s cruel and inhumane to fight, torture or kill dogs in the manner that Vick is accused of.
A friend and I was having a debate as to why Mike Vick was getting so much press. She thinks race as to do with it while I think it’s because of his all-star status and the nature of the crimes he just pleaded too.
Can someone please talk to these athletes to get them to understand that they are under a microscope and the things that they do will be publicized in the media. So in the words of my mother “Act like you got some sense.”

Fantasy Football

July 15, 2007

It’s almost time for the 2007 – 2008 NFL to start and that means it time for Fantasy Football. Yes, I play fantasy football and have played since 2002. My record has been ok to dismal depending the year. In my fantasy sports trophy case I have one trophy for a 3rd place win, thanks to Dominic Davis being the Texans main running back and sleeper pick in the fantasy world and well as the real world. Last year was by far my worst year thanks to injuries and a bad trade.

This year I am declaring it to be a good year. I am in a new league and there have been some changes to the scoring system we will be using. So like Hank Williams Jr. would say “Are you Ready for Some Football!!!” and I am answering with a resounding yes.

F.Y.I.
My Record:
2006 9 of 10
2005 5 of 10
2004 4 of 8
2004 5 of 12 (I was in two leagues this year)
2003 3 of 8
2002 7 of 8

Houston’s Mr. 3000

June 29, 2007

Congratulations to Craig Biggio for making and surpassing the 3,000 hit mark. He couldn’t have scripted a better game to achieve it. He had 5 hits a career high that he hadn’t achieved since 2001 and Carlos Lee won the game with a Grand Slam.

What Will They Do….This Time?

June 28, 2007

Historically Houston pro-team GMs have made some bone head moves during their respective sports drafts, see the ill-fated Texans draft of 2006, when they chose Mario Williams #1 and passed on hometown hero Vince Young and All-start running back Reggie Bush. Check out the NBA draft of 1998 when the Houston Rockets took Brice Drew, Michael Dickerson, Mirsad Turkcan ( Who?) in the first round and passed on home town high school star Rashard Lewis. Although, I am an Astros fan, I don’t really follow their draft besides it works differently in baseball since the drafted player go into the farm system (minor leagues), the Astros have their own set of problems, one being that they keep their top prospects in the minors too long before bringing them up to the majors. All this too say, I wonder what bone head move will the Rockets make in this years NBA draft.

Houston has the #26 draft pick in the first round, they so haven’t made any moves to move up in the first round and that is ok. At #26 will there be any players left that can address their needs preferably a Power Forward that is not afraid to use his body. They also need to real shooters, some that can score from 15ft out or that can finish at the basket.

So for this draft tonight I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed and hope that they actually pick a couple of players that can help get the team off Tracy’s ailing back.

We got 8!

June 26, 2006

Ok, so here’s the deal, a few weeks ago the NBA had a draft lottery drawing. The Rockets ,hoping to repeat past luck of moving up a few slots, participated in this drawing (I am not sure if all team participate in the lottery of just the top 10.). Well it is apparent The Rockets luck has run out because they didn’t move any where, they kept the 8th pick.

I must admit, not a lot of hoopla has been made about the upcoming NBA draft that is scheduled to take place on this coming Wednesday, I guess there are no real all-stars that are up for this draft. Well we, here in the Lone Star State, aren’t hearing much about it and in particular Houston, maybe it’s because we are only picking eight i nthe first round. While we should rejoice in the fact that we are still picking in the first round in the high tenth, and be hopeful that at that position we still have some quality talent from which to choose. I don’t think that there is much talent out there at the 8th position. It’s been rather quiet on the local sports shows here, maybe not quiet, but with the draft being this close I would think that that would dominate the conversation and so far it has not. Now the Rockets have a lot of holes to fill and they have an immediate need for a point gaurd, power forward, backup shooting guard and backup for the two positions I’ve named. Let’s hope that Jeff Vangundy and the GM Carroll Dawson will make better choices than Rudy and Carroll did in the past i.e. Matt Malone, Kelvin Cato..etc.

FINALLY

May 31, 2006

This was the headline at noon… Done deal: Rocket returns to Astros in bold letters. So he has returnedRoger Clemmons. Now that that is over can we add some bats to the line up because the ones that are there are not getting it done. The Astros have a couple of guys in their farm system that most of the local sports guys think would add value to the line up, but hey they had a 6 and 19 start to the season last year and look at how they ended up.

to read the the terms of the deal here is the link The Rocket Signs with the Astros

See Ya!!!

May 10, 2006

Yesterday the now “former” GM of the Texan announced his impending resignation. One report said that the Texans owner, Bob McNair, stressed that it was not because of the draft and that he thought the draft went well. Is say humph to that. By season’s end I may be eating these words that I typed but right now, it’s a humph. I also say that this resignation comes one or two drafts too late. The leading sports talk shows say that the Texans have botched second and third round draft picks since their inception. Now I don’t know how much of that is the coach and how much is the GM fault, but on paper it’s the GM. So I say to Charlie Casserly “Nah nah nah nah. Nah nah nah nah. Hey, hey, hey, goodbye”.

What Tha!!!!

April 28, 2006

The Texans apparently have passed on both Reggie and Vince. They have taken Mario Williams. No one had Mario in their top 5 picks. This is a PR nightmare. I’m at a lost for words.

Will They or Won’t They

April 24, 2006

Will the Texan’s draft this Guy Vince Young #1

or this guy Reggie Bush.

Maybe they will trade the pick for D’Brickashaw Ferguson .

With 5 days left until the NFL draft and with all the rumors and speculations it’s looking like the Texans, with their number one draft pick, will draft Reggie Bush. Although, some folks are still holding out hope that they, by some reason of insanity will draft Vince Young. I say insanity because financially that wouldn’t make much sense they picked up the 8 million dollar option on David Carr’s contract back in Feb. Even though Vince Young is a hometown guy I don’t foresee him coming here. So let it go Houston www.vinceyoungorelse.com , and lets get ready for some football.
