Saturday, July 19, 2008 marked the end of an era, the series finale of Nickelodeon’s The Avatar- the Last Airbender aired.

No more will we follow the little bald headed monk with the blue arrows on his quest to bring the four nations (Wind, Earth, Water, Fire) of the world together. This cartoon was masterfully written to a point where elementary school kids and adults could enjoy the cartoon equally.

So goodbye Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, MoMo and Appa I will miss you.

Ok so I am a Tyler Perry fan but his new show House of Payne is not very good so far. I am not sure where to start with what I think is wrong with this show, maybe I’ll start with the actors. While I know that Mr. Perry wants to give some of the folks who helped him get to where is today a shot, I don’t think the lead characters of Mom and Pop Payne LaVan Davis and Cassie Davis are not coming across on the small screen very well. They seem to talk to loud and their acting to seems to me to be a bit exasperated. I think they are having a time adjusting from acting on the stage to the acting on TV. Next we have the Mr. and Mrs. Payne’s son who I think adds no value to the show and needs some work on his acting as well. Now we have the kids, the little girl just doesn’t appear to be acting to me but more like she’s trying to remember her lines or like she’s reading but on a positive note the little boy seems to be a natural on the camera and with a few acting classes I think he will do well. Lastly, we have our veteran actor Mr. Allen Payne I don’t if it’s the bad acting that surrounds him but he is not coming across all that good in this show and believe me I have been an Allen Payne fan(G-Money) since his days as Lance on the Cosby show.

Ok so that’s the acting now the writing, the story development is lacking I can’t see how a married mother of 2 young children being on crack can be made funny. I don’t see the comedy in this situation at all but aside from that the story line of the few (3 shows) that I have seen just don’t flow, I mean when CJ (Allen Payne (I)) finally decides to go look for his wife after having worked all day at the firehouse, he finds her in a crack house. He doesn’t seem to upset but he tries to muster up some sadness and concern in his voice when he asks her to come home. She instead chooses the crack dealer. He seems sad but in the next episode he doesn’t seem to be bothered by the fact that his wife is a drug addict who has chosen to abandon him and their children. I don’t get it and the add further insult to injury, the son is making jokes and light of the fact that his mom is drug addict by making jokes with his cousin. I don’t get it.

Hopefully this show will get a much needed overhaul like “A Different World” did. But I don’t see it being much of hit, let alone, a crossover hit, if it continues on the same path that it is on.

This is just the humble opinion of one viewer.

Mr. Washington, can you please go sit your self down some where and shut up!! It was your mouth that got you axed from one of the top rated dramas on televison today. If you don’t shut up then it’s going to be your mouth that will get you black balled in Hollywood.

So Mr. Washington take my advice, sit down, shut up and let this dead horse die. The more you squawk, the more you proceed to alienate your self from your fans and your colleagues.

Melinda doesn’t fit the image an american idol and unless she does something amazing to boost her stage presence she will be the next one voted off.

For me Will’s sexy meter went form red(bad) to green(good) when I saw this shot right here one day on a commercial for the Bad Boys Movie. I was looking at the TV saying to myself , damn is that Will Smith, wow that boy has been eating his Wheaties. Every since then his Sexy meter has been GREEN and getting GREENER with each sighting. I understand why Jada can’t keep her hands off him. Hell if he was my husband I wouldn’t be able too either. This blog entry is a tribute to Will Smith and ll his sexiness. So Mr. Will Smith keep doing your thang on the screen and I’ll keep watching.

Ok so sometime last month it was announced that UPN and the WB channels will be combing to form a new station call CW. This was so confusing to me in so many ways. First when did UPN + WB = CW *confused* Second how is the programming going to be handled. I mean UPN has most of OUR, black folks, shows or as the other folks like to term it, more URBAN programing, while, the WB’s show were more for your white folks. So I guess now we will get show like Gilmore Girlfriends, Everwood hates Chris, or One on One Tree Hill. You get my meaning. Technically we really only had one night on UPN so maybe this move won’t affect us to badly. But just like any merger of two big or in this little companies, there are going to be some cuts. Since the we have until the end of this yea before the merger happens, I’ve decided to take a stab at handing out PINK SLIPS

Here are my recommendations for PINK SLIPS:

All of Us this show really sucked big time. At least Elise Neal was smart enough to leave and not try to hold on like Dwayne Martin and Lisa Raye. I am not sure if that was how Jada and Will did it with Sheree but this show sucked from day one.

Next is a double hitter even more convenient is that they air right behind each other, One on One and Cuts. Really Kyla stick to Penny Proud and movies becuase you punkin Arnaz is not cute. One on One was cool for a while once they toned down Kyla’s smart ass mouth, most black folks wouldn’t tolerate a 13 yearl old kid, at the time, talking the way she did, and once they made Robert Ri’Chard, Arnaz, and look manlier and not so gay, yep he was looking a lil sweet. After these changes the show was actually tolerable. Now that Brianna, Kyla, has graduated which by the way is the typical end to a show with a kid as the star, we are being subjected to the stellar acting skills of the Rich Thug Ray J., need I say more? And Cuts is just stupid nuff said.

Next one is 7th Heaven; since they are ending their eleven year run and all the kids are grown (This one really doesn’t count). Any hey whose family is really like that anyway especially a PK (preacher’s kid)?

Next on the chopping block is Charmed, as much as I’ve loved this show in the past, it really isn’t that good now. There are too many new characters and not enough juicy story lines. I believe the show has run its course. Besides I still miss Prue, Shannon Doherty, and the bad girl dynamic she brought to the show.

Well this is the end of Part one since my meds are kicking in. In Part Two there will be more cuts.

LOST
This is the appropriate title for this show since the viewers, and for the most part the writers, are totally LOST as to what the hell is going on. Here we have this show about a plane crash on some uncharted island and there were survivors. Simple plot you say, but there is more. The writers are choosing not answer any questions and for me it’s getting to be to frustrating and confusing. Now I am not an idiot, I love a good thrilling show but at some point you got to give your viewers something besides cliff hangers to keep them interested. For example when the show first aired there was this mysterious Monster that they chose not to show the viewers and at the end of season one, they promised to give us, the viewers some answers. Well the cliffhanger answered NOTHING; it only brought about more questions. Now we start season two with a new dynamic, the back half of plane had survivors. They dedicated a couple of shows to them, but unlike how they did with the front half of the plane, they didn’t give us background on each of the main characters. They did this in the first season with the main characters from the front half of the plane by showing us flash backs of that person’s life and how they come to be on OCEANIC Flight 815. (more…)

The BET 25th Anniversary special was off the chain. Side note: Is Steve Harvey the only host BET knows? Hasn’t he hosted the last 3 or 4 shows? Is it because Monique just had babies (she just had twins)? I like Steve but come on can’t we get some other people to host? Just an observation, back to the topic at hand. The Special was done up right nicely. Boy did it take me back. Yeah, yeah I know I sound old but hey this special highlighted my era in music. Donnie Simpson and Video Soul was a staple for BET and black videos. This show helped launch many careers. I can’t remember how I started watching the show but I would imagine it came about when I was channel surfing, which I often did back then and still do now. I know that I saw music with folks that look liked me. I was happy and awed. Then I saw him, with those light green eyes and that beautiful smile, Donnie Simpson the black version of Dick Clark…does this man ever get old (Donnie Simpson that is). It was at that moment that I was hooked. I wasn’t too happy when Sherri(spelling?) Williams joined to show, she didn’t add much to it in my opinion. Donnie had that warm smile and laugh that made the viewer and artist feel so comfortable. I went through the many set changes; Donnie’s many wardrobe changes and his many co-hosts. When I saw him open the 25th Anniversary show and he was still looking like that same guy sitting on that leather couch introducing those videos 25 year ago, I just smiled. (more…)
